8×6 oil on canvas panel Okay, Here we go on the new site. It’s been a long haul getting here, and I’m ready to get back to doing more painting. I also want to begin putting up interviews with my favorite daily painters, and getting your feedback on daily painting topics.

Speaking of which, here’s my first painting in what seems like too long. I’m enjoying working on landscapes in this small format. It’s really helping me to think about simplifying things, and concentrating on the things that make painting fun for me, like design, color, and putting on the paint. When I’ve been away from painting for a bit it’s like I forget what I was doing, and each painting becomes important in and of itself. I end up trying to solve things as an isolated problem. What I like about painting every day is that a stream of awareness develops and things begin to come out that allow me to make discoveries and progress in specific areas. Today’s painting grows out of yesterday’s and leads to tomorrow’s.

The search which takes place in my studio might best be described as a mining operation, a vertical dig in which a number of discoveries are apt to surface from a single shaft. (Abe Ajay)

You will learn to enjoy the process… and to surrender your need to control the result. You will discover the joy of practising your creativity. The process, not the product, will become your focus. (Julia Cameron)
