Flower,Plate and Cup (interpretation)

12_27_07.jpg

$89 unframed

6×8 oil on canvas panel This took awhile to set up for some reason, but it was well worth the effort. The color scheme was really fun to work with, and the reflections and transparency of the green plate made a worthy subject for study. Yesterday, I was thinking about observation, and actually was considering it in respect to interpretation. The two go hand in hand, of course, when painting from life. Close observation of my subject allows me to investigate and improvise my interpretation. The observation is necessary, but the interpretation is where the fun lies.

Our interpretation is more important than what we are looking at. Just because the painting looks like something does not mean that it is successful. (Tom Lynch)

The person viewing your work has no idea what the scene really looked like, nor do they care… (Mike Svob)
