8×6 oil on canvas panel Still trying to simplify my brushwork, and just paint the patterns. One silhouette overlapping another with interesting shapes and edges. That’s mostly what I work for once I have the values related. The color seems to grow out of the feeling I’m after. I’m not very literal when it comes to color. Instead, I try to pump it up a bit, and make it the way I want to imagine it.
Color is like cooking. The cook puts in more or less salt, that’s the difference! (Josef Albers)
A variation of edges, along with the proper value, allows the artist to draw attention to or away from different areas of the painting… Likewise, use of color draws attention to an area… (Kenn Backhaus)
