Tomato Tumble (Shadow and Light)
October 3rd, 2007
$89 unframed
6×8 oil on canvas panel This painting is as much about the shadow pattern as it is about the tomatoes. A simple integration of what’s in the light and what’s in the shade can give a strong unity to a painting. Providing a dynamic relationship of the two (more of one than the other) will make the pattern more powerful and interesting. Upon this structure, edge control and selected contrasts can direct the attention to the focal center. I’ve tried to apply these things in today’s painting while working with a simple harmony of reds.

I really appreciate your ‘painter’s thoughts’ with each post. They are good reminders about what is behind a great painting. Thanks.
