Bunch of Grapes (control vs. spontaneity)
October 10th, 2007
$89 unframed
6×8 oil on canvas panel This was another attempt at painting as directly as possible. My training as an illustrator taught me a number of techniques that allowed for a very controlled approach. For instance, by first making a fairly complete monochrome value painting you can work out the drawing and build color on top of it in a way that can be refined to as polished a finish as you care to work for. At this point, however, I’m interested in improving my ability to get the color decisions made more accurately from the beginning, so that my drawing, edges, and brushwork are all handled more spontaneously.
